7 Activities for Rainy Days
Crested Butte summers are filled with amazing wildflowers and lush valleys. The price for this paradise may include a few rainy days. Clouds drift over mountains to create some truly beautiful landscapes along with frequent rainbows. This can also mean taking a break from outdoor activities. So, if you’re on vacation and it happens to be a wet one, we’ve got some suggestions.
Coffee & Book
You’re here to unwind, right?  What better way than with a good book. The rain is cool, the beverage is warm. Some say there’s no better way to enjoy the day. Grab your favorite book and head to The Guild to cozy up with a tasty drink and some peace and quiet.
Movie
Catch the latest blockbuster or independent flick in Crested Butte’s own movie theater the Majestic. A full line of concessions includes popcorn (of course) topped with real butter (harder to find), and even a couple of craft beers on tap. There’s even a film festival every year at the end of September for you cinephiles.
Museum
The Crested Butte Mountain Heritage Museum occupies one of the oldest buildings in town, built in 1883. In addition to the building, you’ll discover the whole valley’s rich history including gold & coal mining, the old wood-plank skiing days, and the origins of mountain biking. Have the kids with you? Go hang out at the Trailhead Children’s Museum in Mt. CB for arts and crafts, playtime, and numerous exhibits.
Dine Out
So many good restaurants and bars and so little time. Enjoy the rainy day in the comfort of one of Crested Butte’s most tasty and comfortable restaurants, django’s. It’s vacation, so sit back, enjoy a drink or two and indulge in numerous small dishes that’ll have you feel right at home.
Shop
Browse the art galleries, grab a t-shirt, or pick up that rain coat you forgot at Chopwood Mercantile (and just try not leaving with a few extra new pieces of gear or shirts). If you’re looking for something in particular, we’ve separated the stores into categories:  Clothing •  Jewelry & Gifts •  Art & Photo •  Sports Shops
Hike
So, it’s a little wet.  So what? Throw on your waterproof gear and head out on the trails. Odds are the rain will just pass through and you may catch a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ view. Just watch out for any lightning and opt for the lower elevation trails: Hiking Guide
Relax
You’re on vacation right? Who says you have to do anything? Soak in the hot tub, throw a log on the fire, or just sit on a bench and watch the rain fall while contemplating how lucky you are to be in the Butte. Pick up a book from Townie Books on Elk Avenue and find some place to cozy up!
