Some of the best aspen trees can be experienced on this short, but rewarding hike up to the Beaver Ponds. The nearby Anthracite Range can be reflected in the ponds on a calm day. A scenic drive via Ohio Pass is also part of the great experience to get to this trailhead.

Directions
From the Town of Crested Butte:Â Take Whiterock Ave west out of town as it turns into Kebler Pass Road. Drive 6.5 miles to the sign for Ohio Pass on your left. Bear left and stay on the Ohio Pass Road [1] for 4.12 miles to a the trailhead, which is well marked on your right side along with a parking lot.
Route
This easy walk is a great choice in the fall, as it is entirely through aspen groves [4]. The forest floor is covered with ferns and wildflowers in the warmer months as well. Follow the dirt trail all the way up to the ponds, where the view opens up to reveal mountains of the Anthracite Range [5]. There are a number of short and less obvious trails around the ponds on the west side. This is also a great spot for picnics or camping, with many quiet sites to enjoy. You'll see a couple of domelike beaver homes called lodges, in the ponds [6], which are made of branches and mud. These can only be reached by underwater entrances.
This is a pet friendly trail, abide by the leash law at all times. Yield trail right of way to all others when hiking with your dog. Tread lightly on the trail to avoid damaging the ecosystem and remember to pack out all doggy doo.
