Humans of Crested Butte – Huck

“There was this race, the Vapor trail, over in Salida. You go from Salida and you go to the top of the Continental Divide a few times, not just once, it’s like 125 miles, its crazy. One of the highest points in that race is at the top of the Canyon Creek Trail and its the middle of the night, pitch black, your bike is on your back and you’re hiking 45 minutes up hill and at the top you can look over and see all the little headlamps over Tomichi Pass. . .and then looking off to the East you can see lighting flashes.”

“There aren’t too many times where you’re on top of a mountain at 4 o’clock in the morning, it was just a super unique experience. That was pretty cool. I was in complete awe, like what are you doing here? But this is so cool and when is the next time that you’re really gonna do this? Those are really fun experiences to have. Truth be told, I don’t think I’ve ever, after that, been on a mountain and seen lighting that far off in the distance where its lighting up the sky.”

“The pro challenge was always this kind of catalyst where if you didn’t work together you weren’t going to pull this thing off. So that was a big desire for me, and I was like ‘I want to make a positive contribution to my community and I think this is how I can do it.’ To me, how in the world are you supposed to succeed if you’re not working together?
