Hartman Rocks is a must if visiting the Gunnison Valley with over 14,000 acres of public land managed by the Bureau of Land Management and 160 acres (The Base Area) owned and managed by The City of Gunnison, and Gunnison County.. It’s the perfect place for mountain bikes, dirt bikes, climbing, atvs, hiking, trail running, camping, and more. 45 miles of singletrack trails, 45 miles of road, and 50 designated dispersed campsites create an outdoor enthusiast mecca. Better yet, it’s only 45 minute drive from the town of Crested Butte.
Motorcycling
Motorcycles are allowed on 44 miles of trails and 45 miles of roads. Additionally, there is a Motorcycle Terrain Park with a 1 mile closed loop track near the McCabe Lane entrance. Respect other visitors by being careful when you pass & minimize your noise around others. The Ridge Trail, Golf Course Trail, and several Base Area trails are closed to motorcycles and Trail 9-0 has additional seasonal restrictions.
4Wheel Drive and ATV Use
4WD's and ATV's are allowed on 45 miles of roads in the area. These vehicles are not allowed to push their way down single track trails. ATVs are also allowed to use the Terrain Park track near McCabe Lane entrance

Hartman Rocks Recreation Area Directions
From the Town of Crested Butte: Drive 30 miles south on CO 135 and make a right onto Highway 50 in Gunnison. Travel 1.5 miles and turn left onto W Airport Rd. Continue onto Gold Basin Rd for a mile and Hartman’s will be on your right.
