Crested Butte Mountain Biking: Lower Cement Creek Trail

Like the Wagon Trail, the Lower Cement Creek trail provides a singletrack alternative to a road. While the trail has a few rocky sections with some short climbs, in general this is a fantastic option for beginners. The trail travels north of Cement Creek Road with views of lush forests on Cement Mountain, through aspens, pines, and meadows.

Directions

Cement Creek Road is located just past Crested Butte South. From town you will need to drive south on 135 to Crested Butte South(CB South). You will pass CB South on the left and continue on the dirt forest road. The first large dirt lot you see on your right is a great place park. You can continue up the road further, but this is the most reliable parking.

Route

From the parking lot you will continue on FS road 740. The trail will start on your left.While you can hop on the trail here, for a better overall experience you should continue on the road to the eastern most portion of the Cement Creek Road. Once you travel just about 2 miles up the road, you will see another parking area. This is the Winter Trailhead for Cement Creek Road. Just before that point is the start of the Lower Cement Creek Trail on your left. From here hop on the singletrack and enjoy. There are a few rocky sections, but for the most part they are spread apart and easy to negotiate. You will cross a few forest roads, but the trail will always continue on the other side of the road. Eventually the trail will dump you back out to Cement Creek road completing your journey on the Cement Creek Trail.

Notes

This is a great early season trail as it typically melts off quicker then other trails up valley. You will encounter aspens, pines, sage and plenty of wildflowers along the way. If you want to extend your trip, head up Cement Creek Road a few more miles, The valley opens up and gives you beautiful views of Italian Mountain.
