Being the closest to town and one of the easiest trails in the area, Woods Walk is a great choice for those wanting to dip their toe into the water of Crested Butte hikes. Even though it’s really only a short walk, there are great views and natural scenery to enjoy. Wildflowers bloom here in the summer and aspens turn golden in the fall.Â

Route
There are many detours and junctions along the route, but most will lead you to the same end point and back onto the main trail. Staying to the left at most junctions will offer the higher trail and some slightly better views of the valley. The first quarter mile starts through an aspen grove and then opens up to reveal a grand vista of Peanut lake, Gothic Mountain, and Mount Crested Butte. Follow the trail down into the valley with aspen groves off to your left side. When you get to the end, you can continue down to the Lower Loop Trail, or bear left onto the Bud Trail, which connects to the Upper Lower Loop. Both ways take you further up the Slate River Valley. Feel free to turn around at any point.
This is a pet friendly trail, abide by the leash rules at all times. Yield trail right of way to all others when hiking with your dog. Tread lightly on the trail to avoid damaging the ecosystem and remember to pack out all doggy doo.
This is a popular bike trail, so watch out for bikers. If biking yield to horses, hikers, and uphill riders. Don't ride trails when muddy and bike to the trailhead if possible. Be considerate to other users, the land, and local landowners.
