Prime Time on Strand Hill
Fall is a special season in Crested Butte. For many locals, this is a season of empty trails, striking colors, livestock standoffs, and cowpie dodging. Farmers continue cutting their last bits of hay, the shrubs give off that sweet autumn scent, the air grows more crisp, and eventually frost starts to cover the grass in the mornings

Best of all is the stark contrast of aspen leaves changing their color on the beautiful mountains that surround Crested Butte. This can give you a different perspective of the surrounding land, and evoke a foreign feel to a local place. What a fantastic excuse to make that extra effort and get out amidst the temporary seas of gold! There are still plenty of places and many trails where you can enjoy these aspens for into October.
One of these prime time locations is Strand Hill. Biking or hiking through the thick aspen groves should during peak foliage should be on everyone’s bucket list. Hopefully some of these photos might entice you to get out, or at the very least stoke you up for another seasonal transition in Crested Butte.
