Our 4 Top Winter Spots in Crested Butte
This place is our favorite place. Crested Butte and the surrounding country is filled with endless winter adventures, areas, and backdrops. Each of us at Travel Crested Butte headed out this winter and settled on some spots that you’ve got to check out for yourself.
Dylan – The Bench

With the perfect bird’s eye view of town, The Bench provides Dylan with a sense of peace, serenity, and gratefulness. Whether he’s out on break, needing a break, flying the drone, or just exploring with his pup this is the slice of Crested Butte that does the trick for him.
Directions: Head west on Elk Ave toward 1st St, then turn left toward Co Rd 12 and continue on and you’ll find the perfect view for you. • Map
Local’s Tip: Bring a book, kick back, and chill.
Molly – Cement Creek

It’s out of the way, that’s why it’s special. Bring the pup, nordic skis, and an open mind to Cement Creek, just up the road from Crested Butte South, and you’ll feel as if you’re the only one.
Directions: From the Town of Crested Butte: Take 135 south 6.6 miles to the town of Crested Butte South. Turn left onto Cement Creek Road (Co Rd 740) and follow it as it turns into dirt for 1.8 miles. The parking lot is on the right side of the road and the trailhead is directly across from it on the left side. • Map
Local’s Tip: Pack some snacks for a longer adventure and when it thaws out hike Caves Trail.
Josh – Elk Avenue

If you wake up early enough, like Josh, Elk Avenue provides a break from it’s “hectic” persona. Fresh snow, morning sun, and a hot cup of coffee put Josh at ease. Filled with shops, good food, and Crested Butte character, Elk Ave is the heartbeat that keeps CB pumping.
Directions: If you can’t find it, you’re probably not in Crested Butte, CO. It’s our “Main Street”. • Map
Local’s Tip: Get to Elk Ave before 7am and there will be no cars in site and hot coffee brewing.
Sarah – West Side

If you didn’t get to a Magic Meadows Yurt Dinner this year, you need to start planning for next. Sarah had the best gourmet dining backcountry experience to put the Nordic Center’s West Side on top of her list. It’s a spot for good friends, the pups (where designated only), bright stars, and epic CB views.
Directions: Head west on Elk Ave toward 1st St and turn right at the first cross street onto 1st St. Turn left onto Butte Ave and continue onto Peanut Lake’s dirt road until you see your trailhead. • Map
Local’s Tip: Bring a picnic and go back as far as you can!
