Humans of Crested Butte: Emma

“Growing up here, the spirit of adventure has bled into my life now.”

“Every kid is driven to play outside here and engage in nature and most kids here prefer to go skiing than play video games. There’s plenty of video games and TV and all that, but it was so special (growing up here) and it made me a little more fearless specifically when it came to trying steeplechase.”

“(Running) is a universal language. We can travel all over the world and race against people from so many different countries, we don’t speak the same language but we all run.”

“Immediately it (steeplechase) felt fun and it felt comfortable and the water jump wasn’t intimidating or scary because I jump off cliffs in Lake Powell, I jump off the little mound into the Slate all the time, we would go off the rope swing at Long Lake. There are all these moments growing up here that you experience what some people would think was scary or intimidating, but for us we learned to trust our bodies.”

From all of us at Travel Crested Butte, we wish you the best of luck in the racing season and hope to see you in the next summer Olympics!
