Crested Butte Music Festival: Sally Miner Lecture Series- A Brief History of the Violin

Did you know that violins can cost upwards of $20 million? Why? Where did the violin originate and why is it so awesome? Learn about the instrument’s Italian Renaissance birth, its development over the past 500 years, and its use as a vehicle for virtuosity. After the lecture, you’ll be able to better appreciate the instrument during an incredible performance by CBFM’s Festival Director, Dr. Emily Ondracek-Peterson.

Lecturer: Dr. Erik Christian Peterson

Dr. Peterson is a Juilliard-trained, international concertizing musician and lecturer at institutions such as Oxford, Princeton, and NYU. He is Co-Artistic Director of the Crested Butte Music Festival.
