CORE Kids brings real youth fitness coaching to Crested Butte, year-round. Founder Larry Chauvin built his career around this exact kind of program: years as a PE teacher, director at Camp Longhorn in Texas, and founder of Austin Youth Fitness before bringing the playbook to Crested Butte. The result is camp that feels like recess, but kids leave faster, stronger, and more coordinated than when they arrived.
Summer is the flagship: five week-long sessions running June through August. Mornings run as Camp CORE where kids work through proper running form, pacing drills, age-appropriate strength training, and high-energy games like dodgeball, capture the flag, and tag variations. Afternoons shift to CORE Kids Ride, a recreational bike camp exploring Crested Butte and CB South on roads, trails, and the rec path. Campers learn road rules, helmet checks, and bike-handling skills. Full-day campers do both, with a lunch hour built in.
Beyond summer, CORE Kids runs year-round programming. The Learn to Ride Clinic in May helps kids transition off training wheels in 3-4 sessions. Middle School Strength classes meet twice a week at the CORE studio, teaching proper weightlifting form for rising 6th-8th graders. Small group and individual youth training is available year-round on flexible schedules built around your family’s calendar.
Book the full-day camp option and you get both Camp CORE in the morning and CORE Kids Ride in the afternoon. The lunch hour is included for $50 less than booking each separately.
