1989, 24-year-old Tracy Edwards skippered the first all-female crew in the Whitbread Round the World Race, a grueling yachting competition that covers 33,000 miles and lasts nine months. Maiden follows Edwards from her idyllic childhood, to her troubled years as a teen, to the Greek Islands where she learned her sailing skills while cooking, cleaning and bartending, all culminating in the life-changing moment when she heard about the most epic sailing event in the world. She and her crew were the first women to try it. You can imagine how that went over with the men. It’s a rousing, adventurous, high-seas celebration of the power of women.
