7 Reasons to Experience Nordic Ski Season in Crested Butte

Here in Crested Butte, winter means snow. With that snow comes one of our favorite activities: cross-country skiing. Did you know that Crested Butte is the Nordic Ski Capital of Colorado? Being ‘dubbed’ the capital means you’ll find the best offerings here: views, trails, like-minded skiers, etc.

7. Crested Butte Nordic Center

Within walking distance from town, the Crested Butte Nordic Center, is the place to go for all things cross-country skiing this winter. Crested Butte Nordic maintains 55 kilometers of immaculately groomed trails around the area and offers complete ski and snowshoe rental packages, private lessons, clinics, and tours, as well as fine yurt dining experiences.

6. Thanksgiving Camp

This year’s Thanksgiving Nordic Ski Camp is November 23rd-27th. With early snowfall, Crested Butte is one of the first places in the state to have good conditions. The Nordic Center will have it groomed and ready for camp! Details: Thanksgiving Camp

5. Serenity

Picture this: sliding through the open track, towering mountains all around, birds chirping, the sun shining, and perfectly groomed trails for you to ski. The serene landscapes around here are like no other.

4. Fun for Everyone

The beauty of cross-country skiing is that anyone can do it! Nordic skiing can be enjoyed by all regardless of fitness or age. The classic style is great for beginners or those looking for an easier cruise on the trails. Skate skiing will add some physical challenge and provides an amazing workout. Kids 16 and under get day passes for $10 and rentals for $10.

3. The Grand Traverse

An extraordinary Colorado backcountry route! The Grand Traverse is a point-to-point ski race from Crested Butte to Aspen.  Racers travel 40 miles across the Elk Mountain range, climbing over 6,800 vertical feet. To ensure competitor safety, racers must have a partner, carry mandatory gear, and begin the race at midnight when avalanche danger is low. This years Grand Traverse is scheduled for March 26th – 28th, 2021

2. The Annual Alley Loop
