DESCRIPTION:The Alley Loop is not your typical American Birkebeiner Qualifier.  The course starts\, finishes\, and passes through the heart of downtown Crested Butte winding around on snow covered streets\, narrow alleys\, and one lane bridges.  At any given time\, you may be cheered on by an alley party\, find yourself surrounded by oompa loompas\, or skiing past a train of people connected by a crazy costume. \nRacers are sometimes forced to make quick passes and depending on their luck\, may even get stuck on a bridge for a few seconds. Once you make it through town\, you are rewarded by pristine tracks and epic views on the outskirts of Crested Butte. SUMMARY:Emma Coburn's Elk Run 5k
DESCRIPTION:Join in for the 7th edition of Emma Coburn’s Elk Run 5k! Race in person in Crested Butte\, Colorado to run in paradise at 9\,000ft elevation or participate virtually anywhere in the world. Our aim is to provide an epic race day experience for everyone while raising money for a great local charity. In total\, we have raised $265\,000 for Living Journeys\, a charity that supports local residents who are battling cancer. The 2023 Elk Run 5k will be run in honor of Emma’s mom\, Annie\, who passed away in January 2023 after a three year battle with Stage 4 colon cancer. We hope to make Annie proud! \nAll racers\, both in person and virtual\, will get a swag bag. The Elk Run tote bag includes the exclusive Elk Run 5k hat\, a bib\, and sponsor goodies. The in-person race will be in Crested Butte\, CO starting at 3rd & Elk. There will be a high school race to start the day followed by the citizen’s race. After the races\, stick around for our after-party! \nAll virtual racers will be shipped their Race Bag in August and on race day\, racers can run a 5k wherever they choose and will share their results on social with the Elk Run community. DESCRIPTION:Chainless Returns Friday\, June 24\, 2022 \nOnly in Crested Butte would we come up with a gravity-fed race like this. Bigger bikes. Bigger costumes. More ridiculous antics. Do whatever it takes to get you here in time for the Chainless. Racers weigh down their bikes\, put on ridiculous costumes\, and remove their chains before racing the seven miles from Kebler Pass into downtown Crested Butte. \nThe race starts at 4:20 pm sharp\, and the one who stays off her brakes the most wins. Well\, actually\, everybody wins. Even the spectators hanging out at the end of Elk to watch the carnage. \nChainless Day of Schedule \n\n9:00 am-12 pm: Registration and bike drop off at the 4-Way Stop. All bikes MUST be dropped off by NOON\n2:30- 3:30 pm: Participant shuttles to the top of Kebler Pass leave from the 4-Way Stop. Don’t miss the shuttle\, and don’t be late- there will be NO shuttles after 3:30\, and if the last one’s full\, you’re on your own getting up there.\n4:20 pm: Race starts – sprint for your bike and coast as fast as you can the 7 miles down to town.

SUMMARY:Memorial Day Military March & Luncheon
DESCRIPTION:This beloved annual event will once again start with a Military March at 9:15am from 2nd Street\, down Elk Avenue to the cemetery. A mass for the fallen will be held at the cemetery chapel at 10 am with a Military Gun Salute at 11 am then a march back to town. \nLunch will be provided at the Queen of All Saints Parish Hall\, 405 Sopris\, starting at 11:45 am\, followed by the Pete Dunda Band from 1:30pm-4:30pm. It will be a wonderful opportunity to honor our military service members\, a chance to share a meal with our community and a fun time with the Pete Dunda Band! This is a free\, family-friendly event\, rain or shine; donations are appreciated.

While we won’t be hosting our traditional parade\, we still intend to provide a great experience to our guests through our 4th of July Passport Program. The program will entail a self-guided walking parade where visitors can enjoy holiday specials along the way. We are asking for businesses to participate by decorating their storefront as an alternative to parade floats and/or by offering holiday specials. Our goal is to continue to make Crested Butte a desirable location to spend the 4th! Pick up your passport at the Visitor’s Center July 1-July 8 or contact events@cbchamber.com to receive a digital version by email. \nThe 4th of July Passport Program \n*Offered from July 1- July 8 \nParticipants will receive stamps in their passport for the following: \n\nLocating highlighted destinations throughout the walking parade\nPartaking in Holiday specials\n\nPassports returned to the Visitor Center with 3 or more stamps will receive a prize. \nThe Walking Parade \nA self-guided trip down Elk Avenue to view decorated storefronts.
