SUMMARY:Off The Page: The Way Out With Devon O'Neil
DESCRIPTION:  \nTickets & Info \n  \nThe Way Out: A True Story of Survival in the Heart of the Rockies by Colorado-based journalist Devon O’Neil is a harrowing true story\, capturing a tale of survival\, tragedy\, and resilience in the Colorado backcountry. This unforgettable narrative takes readers into the heart of the Salida\, Colorado community\, scarred by loss and the complex questions that follow in the wake of disaster. \nIn January 2017\, three fathers and four teenage children set off on what was meant to be a memorable bonding trip in the rugged wilderness. During the trip\, a fifteen-year-old young man and a legendary local Forest Service ranger embarked on what should have been a brief ski into the alpine backcountry. Within hours\, an unpredictable blizzard transformed their adventure into a thirty-hour ordeal that left the entire community reeling. \nThrough exclusive first-hand interviews and a painstakingly researched\, vivid reconstruction of events\, O’Neil chronicles the life-or-death struggle while dissecting the emotional wreckage left behind. He also probes deeper questions: what drives outdoorsmen and women to seek out adventure despite the risk? When tragedy strikes\, how does a community support the survivors? And most importantly\, how do those touched by loss begin to find healing and forgiveness in the face of the unthinkable? \nDevon O’Neil is an accomplished journalist based in Breckenridge. Known for longform narratives at the intersections of adventure\, psychology\, and resilience. He began his career as a daily newspaperman before making his mark as a staff writer for ESPN.com and a correspondent for Outside magazine. His work has earned recognition in the Best American Travel Writing and Best American Sports Writing anthologies and has twice been a finalist for national awards in civic journalism. Raised on the island of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands\, O’Neil studied psychology at Middlebury College\, a background that informs his reporting about the mental and emotional challenges faced by adventurers. When he’s not writing\, O’Neil spends his winters maintaining a network of backcountry ski cabins above 11\,000 feet\, embodying the adventurous spirit he so often writes about.

SUMMARY:Fall Folk Concert Series: The Rememberers
DESCRIPTION:More Info \n  \nIntroducing Fall Folk — a new\, free music series at the Center for the Arts celebrating the rich sounds of folk music. Cozy up for intimate performances from talented artists\, all set against the backdrop of crisp autumn evenings. No tickets needed. Simply show up\, enjoy the sounds\, and grab a complimentary drink on us! \nThe ReMemberers is a multidisciplinary performance collective blending ritual storytelling\, sacred song\, and live instrumentation into a prismatic experience of traditional myth and memory. Part theatre\, part concert\, part ceremony. Annie Southard’s numinous vocalizations\, Alex Harvey’s vibrating strings\, and John de Kadt’s masterful storytelling converge in a dynamic interplay that transports audiences into states of poetic resonance. Their performances awaken ancient tales from folkloric and mystical traditions\, live-scored\, with both traditional and original melodies from around the world. \nEach gathering hosted by The ReMemberers invites listeners to journey inward\, exploring the shifting contours of their inner mythologies through an encounter with a traditional wisdom tale. Through spiraling rhythms\, layered exposition\, and playful revelation\, the performance dissolves psychic boundaries and reconnects the dismembered parts of the audience’s individual\, collective\, and ancestral subconscious. This communion of spoken word and sacred song knits together some of the most profound and enduring customs of being human. \n

SUMMARY:Abbie Gardner
DESCRIPTION:Tickets & Info \n  \nAbbie Gardner is a fiery dobro player with an infectious smile. Whether performing solo or with Americana darlings Red Molly\, her tales of love and loss\, both gritty and sweet\, are propelled by her impeccable slide guitar chops. As an award-winning songwriter\, captivating vocalist\, and a world-class lap style dobro player\, she has an unmistakable sound all her own. This is masterfully captured on her 2022 CD “DobroSinger.” The record made it to #11 on the Billboard Blues Charts and #2 on the Folk DJ Charts\, receiving rave reviews in Bluegrass Unlimited\, Acoustic Guitar Magazine and American Songwriter. It’s a raw intimate recording full of blues\, ballads and the ache of the unknown. It’s quite a contrast to her previous CD\, which featured a co-write with Chris Stapleton and leaned on full band production. Abbie stands strong as a solo act and has opened for Lori McKenna and Martina McBride. \nAcoustic Guitar Magazine says\, “sheer brilliance and power … her evocative guitar is a second voice throughout\, sometimes singing in unison\, in harmony other times\, or answering as in a conversation with the singer. The playing and singing are both impeccable and loaded with personality. You can hear every nuance of the slide\, smooth one moment or rattling slightly at the end of a phrase like punctuation; and her intimate\, pitch-perfect vocals—wistful\, playful\, confessional—sound like they’re dancing with the guitar.” \nHer background is as varied as the songs she writes. Her father\, Herb Gardner\, is a stride pianist and dixieland trombonist. Abbie didn’t get into music school on her original instrument (flute)\, but graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Occupational Therapy. She gradually found her way back to music in Boston’s folk music scene. \n  \nDuring the pandemic\, Abbie started teaching free Woodshed dobro lessons in her backyard and posting them to YouTube. Helping other people fan the flames of their creativity has always been a nice balance to performing.  She has taught in person at Nashville Dobro Camp\, ResoSummit\, Kaufman Kamp\, Rockygrass Academy\, and Roots Music Camp. Then for Songwriting\, she’s taught at New England Songwriters Retreat\, Swannanoa Gathering\, Summer Songs\, and Moab Folk Camp. Students can check out her month-long\, small group virtual songwriting classes and her downloadable “Dobro from Scratch” course. \n“Not only a first-rate Dobro player but a songwriter to be reckoned with.” –John Platt\, WFUV

SUMMARY:Summer Classics in the Courtyard: Hot Tub Jazz
DESCRIPTION:Join in every Tuesday for live music in the Feldberg East Courtyard! From classical\, to jazz and world music\, we hope you enjoy these intimate live performances over cocktails from the Black Dragon Bar\, with stunning summer views. \n  \nTickets & Info \n  \nHot Tub Jazz was originally formed in Boulder\, Colorado in the early 80’s when Scott Betts gathered some friends together to play some tunes. The quartet was asked to play it’s first gig at the grand opening of a health club in the foothills outside of Boulder. \nBefore playing the job\, the four musicians were sitting in the hot tub at the club trying to come up with a name for the group and Hot Tub Jazz was born. \nThe western slope version has played at Colorado Mountain Winefest & Jazz Among the Grapevines. The Hot Tub Jazz plays many of the great jazz standards of the American Songbook. We also include more contemporary tunes from folks like Michael Franks and Van Morrison. You may even hear jazz versions of other pop and country songs.
