SUMMARY:partner performance: changing the legacy of race + ethnicity
DESCRIPTION:changing the legacy of race & ethnicity: conversations for one america\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAcross the US\, people are marching in the streets\, demanding an end to police brutality and racial inequality. But the issue of racism and violence against people of color runs deep. While we‘ve made progress over the years\, this feels like a moment when people all over the country recognize that half-measures are not enough. This is a deep\, centuries-in-the-making challenge that we face to undo racism\, and we need decisive action. \nChanging the Legacy of Race & Ethnicity (CLoRE) is a conversation series initiated by Colorado Humanities and implemented with partners to encourage understanding and discussion about the legacy of race in America\, and how to make changes now for a more just future. \nView our panel of experts discussing “How Did We Get Here?” part one of the Changing the Legacy of Race & Ethnicity series on and Facebook or YouTube . \n\n\n\nRachel Harding\n  \n\n\n\n\nDenise Maes\n  \n\n\n\n\nWendell Pryor\n  \n\n\n\n\nAnthony Young\n  \n\n\n\n\n\nthis series is free and will be broadcast live on youtube and facebook. please register for the next program december 9th.

SUMMARY:Kinder Padon Gallery Opening Recption: PHOTOVOICE: Real Food Stories from Across Gunnison Valley
DESCRIPTION:PHOTOVOICE: Real Food Stories from Across Gunnison Valley\nOpening Reception Friday\, December 4\, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Show runs in the Kinder Padon Gallery December 4 – January 14. \nSince COVID began\, Mountain Roots has interviewed folks across the valley to document the pandemic’s impacts on food security. People have shared personal stories throughout a multitude of pandemic response programs; during home deliveries\, at free pop-up produce markets\, and in their own backyard gardens\, where some have sown seeds for the first time. \nWe wanted to know what their food situation is like at home—during the pandemic and prior—to learn more about our community’s food sources\, health habits and nutrition\, and if individuals are able to provide food for their own families. \nThis project showcases the faces and food stories\, aiming to open the door for more meaningful conversation regarding food security. We believe everyone deserves access to healthy food\, regardless of their economic situation—it’s a basic human right. \nAbout Mountain Roots: \nMountain Roots Food Project believes in fostering a future of food that is socially equitable\, environmentally regenerative\, and economically sustainable. We are growing the next generation of young farmers\, growing food and regenerating the land\, teaching K-12 nutrition and environmental education\, and increasing equitable access for all.   \nTo help Mountain Roots Food Project build a healthier\, more resilient local food system\, please visit: mountainrootsfoodproject.org/donate to create solutions today.

SUMMARY:CENTER: Writing the pandemic
DESCRIPTION:    Writing the Pandemic with Mathangi Subramanian. Sunday\, November 22\, 10 – 12 p.m. Virtual. $25 \nWe are living through extraordinary times. How do we document what we are witnessing\, feeling\, experiencing\, while honoring our strengths\, frailties\, and imaginations? In this workshop\, we will do several cross-genre writing exercises designed to help us make sense of the current moment and our current selves\, and to imagine a better future. We will also briefly discuss how pandemics have been documented in the past\, and how our voices can contribute to alternative narratives. \n  \nMathangi Subramanian\, Ed.D.\, believes stories have the power to change the world. Her middle grades book\, Dear Mrs. Naidu\, won the South Asia Book Award\, and her picture book A Butterfly Smile was inducted into the Nobel Museum by Laureate Dr. Esther Duflo. Her novel A People’s History of Heaven was longlisted for the PEN/Faulkner award and the Center for Fiction First Novel Prize\, and was named a finalist for the LAMBDA literary award and the Valley of Words prize.  A former public school teacher\, senior policy analyst at the New York City Council\, and Fulbright Scholar\, she currently consults for Sesame Workshop. She holds a doctorate in education from Columbia Teachers College.

SUMMARY:Crested Butte Ski Swap
DESCRIPTION:2020 CB SKI SWAP – SATURDAY\, NOV. 7TH 2020\nThe Crested Butte Ski Swap returns this year on Saturday\, November 7th 2020 from 9am-5pm in Crested Butte\, CO at the Crested Butte Center for the Arts.  In partnership with the CB Center for the Arts\, the CB Snowsports Foundation is excited to help kick off the start of the 2020/2021 season at the 2020 Ski Swap – an opportunity to buy and sell used ski\, snowboard\, and Nordic equipment and clothing. \nThis year’s Ski Swap will look very different than past years due to restrictions associated with COVID-19 and safety protocols enforced by Gunnison County.  The CBSF has done everything in our power to host this year’s Ski Swap\, and as such\, have had to make some required changes to operate under the current circumstances.  First\, please note that the Ski Swap will be held for one day only – Saturday\, 11/7 from 9am-5pm at the CB Center for the Arts.  Secondly\, in order to comply with current Gunnison County guidelines\, the event will require masks and social distancing; additionally\, as part of the operating plan shoppers must shop directionally throughout the venue with a designated entrance and exit (visual indicators and abundant signage throughout the Swap will help direct traffic flow).  Finally\, the venue can only hold 43 shoppers at a time\, with a ‘1out\, 1in’ policy. \nWhile this year’s Swap will be different\, the CBSF feels strongly about offering this event to our community.  If we work together we can make this happen and keep everyone safe.  We ask that everyone please follow the rules during the Swap. \n***DISCLAIMER: due to uncertainty and volatility surrounding current Gunnison County COVID-19 cases status and indicators associated with the ‘Coronameter’; it is possible that the 2020 Ski Swap could be canceled with very little notice up to the start of the event.  The CBSF will do everything possible to alert the public\, sellers\, and volunteers in a timely manner\, if the event is canceled. \nEvent Details: \nMasks and Social Distancing will be REQUIRED! \nInterested in selling your gear at the 2020 Ski Swap?  Fill out the Seller Registration Form HERE prior to dropping off your gear (easiest option) or register in person when you drop off your gear in person. \n\nGear Drop off-Drop your used gear/clothing to sell on:\n\nThursday\, Nov. 5th from 12pm-5pm in Crested Butte at the CB Center of the Arts behind the building in the East Courtyard (near the Pirate Playground).\nFriday\, Nov. 6th from 10am – 5pm in Crested Butte at the Center for the Arts behind the building in the East Courtyard (near the Pirate Playground).\n\n\n\n\n2020 Ski Swap Event Details\n\nWhere:  Crested Butte Center for the Arts (606 6th St.)\nWhen:  Saturday\, Nov. 7th from 9am-5pm. $5/person to get in from 9am-2pm\, FREE from 2pm-5pm.  FREE for children 10 and under throughout the day.  All proceeds from Door Sales go to support the CBSF’s programs and mission.\n\n\n\nWant to volunteer at the Ski Swap?  The CBSF will need all of the help we can get on Friday and Saturday during the Swap.  If you’d like to learn more about helping and to sign up to volunteer\, visit HERE! \nFor more information and/or questions\, please email Zach at director@cbsnowsports.org

SUMMARY:CB Music Fest: Kneebody
DESCRIPTION:Performer: Kneebody   It’s probably safe to assume at this point that no other band working today can offer what Kneebody delivered at the Blue Whale on Friday night. — Los Angeles Times \nThere isn’t a handy term or genre for the music that Kneebody creates. It’s a band thoroughly acquainted with 1960s free-bop\, 1970s jazz rock\, 1990s hip-hop and postmillennial indie rock; along with classical postminimalism. (I’m leaving something out\, I’m sure.) Whatever the terminology\, this group has an audience… — New York Times \nIn their almost two-decade history\, the Grammy-nominated band Kneebody has created a genre and style all its own. Their sound is explosive rock energy and high-level nuanced chamber ensemble playing set within the frames of highly wrought compositions that are balanced with adventurous no-holds-barred improvising. Rock away the end of the CBMF season with this undefinable band. \nDate: October 3 \nTime: 5:00 pm \nCost: $40.00 \nLocation: Center for the Arts Crested Butte \n606 6th St.\nCrested Butte\, CO 81224 United States \nMore Info: https://travelcb.com/CBMusicFest20-MtCB \n  \n

SUMMARY:CB Music Fest: FINGERNOISE CHAMBER ORCHESTRA
DESCRIPTION:Fingernoise Chamber Orchestra\, Dr. Emily Ondracek-Peterson\, soloist\nBach – Violin Concerto in A Minor Vivaldi – Winter from The Four Seasons Vivaldi – Two Concertos \nQuote: “Emily Ondracek walked on stage to play Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s Violin Concerto and walked off a violin superstar.” – Chicago Daily Herald \nFingernoise returns to perform these gems of the Baroque period. In many ways\, the Baroque period is the rock and roll epoch of classical music\, and here\, the violin soloist is the guitar-shredding rock star. Bach’s Concerto in A Minor features one of the most beautiful slow movements to have ever been quilled\, and the Vivaldi concerts are joy incarnate.
