DESCRIPTION:black stories series: hidden figures \n02 | 26 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm \n\n\n\n\nJoin us as we celebrate black stories throughout the month of February with small and distanced community film screenings + offerings from celebrated poet and novelist Steven Dunn. \nA portion of all proceeds from the film series will be donated to the Melanin Mountain Project. \n\nhidden figures\nWe’re wrapping up our film series with Hidden Figures! As the United States raced against Russia to put a man in space\, NASA found untapped talent in a group of African-American female mathematicians that served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in U.S. history. Based on the unbelievably true life stories of three of these women\, known as “human computers”\, we follow these women as they quickly rose the ranks of NASA alongside many of history’s greatest minds specifically tasked with calculating the momentous launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit\, and guaranteeing his safe return. Dorothy Vaughn\, Mary Jackson\, and Katherine Johnson crossed all gender\, race\, and professional lines while their brilliance and desire to dream big\, beyond anything ever accomplished before by the human race\, firmly cemented them in U.S. history as true American heroes. \nRated PG. \n\ndetails\nTo attend\, please make a donation of at least $10 per ticket. A portion of all proceeds support the Mountain Melanin Project! \nYou may sign up singly\, or in a group of up to 5 and you will be seated together in a pod. \nIf you are attending a film with your pod\, please designate ONE person to sign everyone up. \n**Important for social distancing & safety ** If attending in a group\, please designate one person only to reserve tickets for your pod. We are currently limited to 25 people per screening. \nother events in this series:\n\nFeb. 5  – Black Panther | tickets\nFeb. 6 – “Applying Film Techniques to Writing” with Steven Dunn | tickets\nFeb. 6 – Literary Arts + Lectures Series with Steven Dunn | tickets\nFeb. 12 – Get Out | tickets\nFeb. 21 – Moonlight | tickets

SUMMARY:The Center: Applying Film Techniques with Steven Dunn
DESCRIPTION:“applying film techniques” with steven dunn\nfeb 6\, 2021 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm\n\n\n\n\n  \nFilm uses space and lighting to evoke certain emotions. We will look at ways to make sentences and paragraphs function like how cameras zoom\, pan\, tilt\, etc. We’ll consider what is in the visual frame — the composition of a scene. We’ll discuss high-key and low-key lighting and what effects those produce. We’ll also view a short video that summarizes camera angles\, as well as read and examine passages with a filmic quality. Think of some of your favorite films and we’ll also discuss some of the techniques and try to transfer them to writing.
