YMSB—guitarist Adam Aijala\, bassist Ben Kaufmann\, banjo player Dave Johnston\, Nick Piccininni on mandolin (and other instruments!) and violinist Allie Kral–has always played music of their own design\, in the process attracting a devout following of fans that often resembles a tight-knit family on an epic musical journey as Yonder traverses the country with an ambitious tour schedule. Yonder is a quintessential ensemble honing its craft night after night on the road\, and the fans are there to experience it in real time. Last year our Adventure Series SOLD out quickly\, so don’t miss out! \nTickets &  Info \nPerformer: Tara Rose & The Real Deal \nTara Rose and The Real Deal are a Colorado mountain based string band rooted in bluegrass traditions\, but can’t help from putting a modern spin on the genre with effect pedals\, a kick-drum\, and an ever-growing list of original music that will keep the audience on their toes. \nWhat type of vehicle do I need?  \nPlease bring your own vehicle. This is a jeep trip on difficult mountain mining roads. Obstacles range from simple potholes to tight and difficult rocky trails. Jeep Wranglers are the vehicle of choice and mild additions like lift kits and larger tires are recommended. As always\, please make sure you have at least: extra water\, a functional spare tire\, an appropriate jack and tools supplied by Jeep or a highlift jack\, tire changing tools\, snacks\, extra coats and/or a blanket\, an umbrella for sun or rain\, and durable hiking shoes that are also comfortable. We do not recommend any SUVs\, but there are exceptions for vehicles that have been modified to tackle off road terrain – these vehicles will need to be approved by the CBMF via photograph. Please ask if you have any questions regarding vehicle choice.

Composers in particular have engaged with Russian culture and politics in a fascinating dance that balances reverence for the past with cynicism. This progression of compositional prowess reflects the development from late Imperial Russia to the beginnings of Modernism to the height of the Soviet Union. This is a jeep trip on difficult mountain mining roads. Obstacles range from simple potholes to tight and difficult rocky trails. Jeep Wranglers are the vehicle of choice and mild additions like lift kits and larger tires are recommended. As always\, please make sure you have at least: extra water\, a functional spare tire\, an appropriate jack and tools supplied by Jeep or a highlift jack\, tire changing tools\, snacks\, extra coats and/or a blanket\, an umbrella for sun or rain\, and durable hiking shoes that are also comfortable. We do not recommend any SUVs\, but there are exceptions for vehicles that have been modified to tackle off road terrain – these vehicles will need to be approved by the CBMF via photograph. As a violinist\, she has appeared as soloist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and New York Philharmonic\, recorded for Naxos\, Bridge\, Albany\, and Toccata labels\, and been awarded Chamber Music America’s ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming. Frequently she performs at the world’s leading venues such as Carnegie Hall\, the Guggenheim Museum\, and Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw. As an educator\, she has been a two-time Morse Fellow\, was a New York Philharmonic Teaching Artist\, and has been Artist-in-Residence at Dartmouth\, Williams\, and the Universities of Virginia\, Leeds (UK)\, and Columbia. She earned undergraduate and graduate degrees at the prestigious Juilliard School and a doctorate at Columbia University. Additionally\, she holds an MBA. After enjoying this amazingly beautiful performance\, you’ll join experts from the Observatory to view through powerful telescopes the natural wonders of the universe. \n\n\nTickets include hors d’oeuvres and drinks! \n\n\n\n\nPerformer: Anna Arzumanyan \nRussian-Armenian pianist Anna Arzumanyan made her debut at age 9 in Sochi\, Russia. A student of Erna Savchenko and Svetlana Medvedskay\, Ms. Arzumanyan competed and performed\, appearing as a soloist with the Belorussian State Orchestra\, the Rostov Philharmonic\, the Sochi Symphony Orchestra\, and as a soloist at festivals throughout Eastern Europe. At a young age Ms. Arzumanyan was selected for sponsorship by the prestigious New Name Foundation. With their support\, she performed frequently across the Soviet Union and participated in masterclasses and performances at the Moscow Conservatory. Ms. Arzumanyan went on to perform as a soloist in France and Belgium. Before emigrating to the United States\, she received her masters degrees in piano performance and chamber music performance from the Yerevan State Conservatory\, where she studied with Alexander Gourgenov. Shortly after her arrival in Colorado\, Ms. Arzumanyan became a frequent collaborator with the Moscow String Quartet. \nGet your tickets here!

By juxtaposing performance and film\, you’ll gain greater insight and context into both the music\, composer\, performing artist\, and filmmaker. And\, it’s tremendous fun! \nIn this pairing\, we’ll enjoy a jazz performance on a crisp autumn evening and then watch a film about a jazz festival during a hot summer day. \nPerformers: Mark Harris Trio \nThe evening’s performance features one of the most creative jazz musicians performing and teaching today. Saxophonist Mark Harris has played in bands backing artists Billy Eckstein\, Joe Williams\, Cab Calloway\, Bob Hope\, Natalie Cole\, and the Temptations\, and he has performed with luminary artists such as Roger Waters of Pink Floyd and Fred Frith. He performs original music with Hamster Theatre\, Thinking Plague\, Random Axe\, and performs in classical chamber ensembles Metro Wind Consort and the Lamont Sax Quartet. \nAfter experiencing live the incricies of jazz performance\, we’ll enjoy a new and beautiful remastering (2020) of one of the most famous and important music documentaries. Jazz on a Summer’s Day is a concert film set at the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival in Rhode Island\, directed by commercial and fashion photographer Bert Stern and Aram Avakian\, who also edited the film. The Columbia Records jazz producer\, George Avakian\, was the musical director of the film. The film mixes images of water and the city with the performers and audience at the festival. It also features scenes of the 1958 America’s Cup yacht races. The film is largely without dialog or narration and features performances by legendary jazz artists such as Jimmy Giuffre\, Thelonious Monk\, Sonny Stitt\, Anita O’Day\, Dinah Washington\, Gerry Mulligan\, Chuck Berry\, Chico Hamilton\, and Louis Armstrong with Jack Teagarden. \nBetween performance and film screening\, Dr. Erik Christian Peterson will offer perspicacious comments about both the music performed and the film\, and we’ll play a trivia game with the opportunity to win prizes.
