SUMMARY:CFTA: Wine Wednesdays
DESCRIPTION:Wine Wednesdays Tasting Series\n\n\n\n\nExpand your palate as you experience the subtleties and intricacies of wine in this three-part series\, curated and presented by Sommelier Aaron Tomcak of Mountain Spirits Liquors. Travel to Spain\, Oregon and Italy throughout these laid-back classes\, learning how to describe a wine’s taste and smell; how to judge a wine’s color\, aroma\, flavor and body; and the meaning of such wine concepts as dryness\, acidity\, fruitiness\, tannins\, varietals and vintages. Price includes heavy appetizers from Chef Tim Egelhoff and tasting flights of 4 – 6 wines. Series Location: The Center King Community Room. \nInstructor: Mountain Spirits Liquors Sommelier + Owner Aaron Tomcak\nCost: $45 per class\n5:30 – 7:30 pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\nOn a chilly winter evening\, transport yourself to the beautiful terroir of España. With more of its land under vine than any other country\, it should come as no surprise that Spanish wines are some of the best in the world. From Rioja and Priorat to Cava and Andalucía\, this tasting takes you on a journey through the unique regions and grape varietals of Spain\, including Tempranillo\, Albariño\, Garnacha and more.\n\n\n\n\nKnown for producing elegant and distinct Pinot Noir\, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay\, Oregon’s Willamette Valley is a hot spot for oenophiles. On the same latitude as France’s Burgundy region\, the Willamette is known for inopportune frosts\, scarce sunshine and passionate winemakers and viticulturists who cultivate over three-quarters of their vines with that touchy variety\, Pinot Noir. Learn about this stunning and fickle growing region as you taste fine wines\, including some that may surprise you!\n\n\n\n\nWhile wine lovers may immediately associate Piedmont with Barolo and Barbaresco and the noble Nebbiolo grape\, this tasting introduces students to a wide variety of interesting and complex wines from this incredibly beautiful and fertile region sandwiched between the Alps and the Mediterranean. From Barbera and Dolcetto to Moscato and Cortese\, sample a selection of fine and off-the-beaten-path wines.

SUMMARY:Center for the Arts: Matisyahu
DESCRIPTION:Singer-songwriter Matisyahu is an American Jewish artist of reggae\, rap\, hip hop\, beat box and alternative rock. His lyrical narratives join his band’s inspired instrumentals for songs rife with melodic themes\, rhythmic peaks and valleys\, deep dub meditations and revelatory choruses. Together they thrive on passionate improvisations that operate more like a relationship with the willingness to take chances and a model of acceptance in the process. Their music becomes a poetic reframing of the Jewish philosophical differences between the constancy of emunah (faith) combined with the immediacy of bitachon (trust)\, and a desire to connect to something beyond the self. Matisyau has been on this musical journey for more than a decade\, launching forward at Bonnaroo\, and now throughout his 12 albums boasting a Gold record\, a #1 spot on alternative rock radio charts\, and a Grammy nomination. The band features longtime guitarist Aaron Dugan with Stu Brooks (bass)\, Joe Tomino (drums) and Yuki (keyboards). \nDoors: 7:30 p.m.\nShow: 8:00 p.m.\nCost: $25 – $50\nFriday\, December 6!\n\n\n\n\n\nJust announced! Bedouin Soundclash will be opening for Matisyahu!

DESCRIPTION:FOURTH ANNUAL COMMUNITY COLLABORATIVE IRON POUR THIS WEEK! \nCome watch the sparks fly! The Fourth Annual Community Collaborative Iron Pour is this Saturday\, October 5 beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the Town Overlook / Hippie Hill in Crested Butte.  \nAn Iron Pour is the creation of sculpture through the pouring of molten iron into molds. Both local and visiting artists gather to choreograph this intensely beautiful art with opportunities for the community – including children – to create their own iron sculptures. Extremely visual and aesthetic\, the evening is full of glowing molten iron\, sparks and displays.  \n  \nLEARN ABOUT THE IRON POUR AT ARTIST TALKS \nHave you ever wondered what goes into the Community Iron Pour\, who makes such a one-of-a-kind event happen\, or what sort of inspiration artists use for their own iron sculptures? Join us for an evening of Artist Talks on Friday\, October 4 from 5 – 8 p.m. at the Center with the outstanding and unique artists who make the CB Community Pour happen. Jesse Blumenthal and Ira Hill\, our Pour Directors\, will kick us off\, followed by this year’s visiting artists – Araan Schmidt\, Chris Meyer\, Alison Ouellette-Kirby\, Sarah Von Harling\, Noah Kirby and Toby Flores. This event is free to the public. Come early on Pour Day to create your scratch block\, then stay to watch your mold have molten iron poured into it. After the Iron Pour go home with your very own iron sculpture. Anyone can carve a scratch block – kids and adults – and no experience is necessary! Carve your scratch block from 4:30 p.m. until pour time on Saturday\, October 5 at the Iron Pour. Please arrive no later than 5:30 p.m. for this opportunity. New this year is the choice of a heart-shaped block. Small Block: $35; Medium Block: $50; Large Block: $75. SUMMARY:Center for the Arts: Jackopierce
DESCRIPTION:The seminal duo of Jackopierce is the musical collaboration of Jack O’Neill and Cary Pierce – together performing an alternative modern pop rock focused on resonating harmonies and acoustic guitar. Their synergy flows through bluegrass-tinged tunes to rustic mid-tempo numbers to country rock\, lilting occasionally through the transcendently romantic and tenderly pensive. Thirty years of making music has amassed a loyal following of millions\, with ten studio albums (two for major label A&M); over 400\,000 records sold; tours through three continents\, nine countries and 45 states; and sharing the stage with the likes of John Mayer\, Dave Matthews Band\, Counting Crows\, Sheryl Crow\, Jewell and Alanis Morissette. Armed with stylistic influences from Bob Dylan to John Cougar Mellancamp to Sting\, they’re tearing up the road with high energy live shows touching down to sold out crowds in the likes of Austin\, Memphis and Atlanta. \nVisit Jackopierce’s Website \nDoors: 7:30 p.m.\nShow: 8:00 p.m.\nCost: $15 – $25\nAll Ages \n  \n\n\n\nTicket Type\nCapacity\nPrice\n\n\nSide Gallery Seated GA\n28\n$25\n\n\nCenter Balcony Seated GA\n44\n$25\n\n\nOrchestra Seated GA\n97\n$20\n\n\nMain Floor Seated GA\n116\n$15\n\n\n\n  \n \n

He immediately fell in love. Now he can let that love shine twisting up his own unique and surprising takes on the classics from shrimp and grits to loaded French toast. We don’t know what will spill from his creative cooking pot\, but we’re sure it will be a raucous – and flavorful – good time. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTony Trahan & the BlueKrewe plays a mix of swampy\, Louisiana roots music straight from the bayou. Like a good Cajun gumbo\, Tony and the Krewe add different seasonings to the pot—a pinch of zesty zydeco\, a splash of Cajun flare\, fistfuls of rockin’ blues and a heaping helping of New Orleans funk. They are a Front Range favorite\, with a rep as one of the best party bands this side of the Mississippi. \nVisit Tony Trahan & the BlueKrewe’s website! \n\n\n

SUMMARY:Tour de Forks: Asian Fusion
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\nJourney to Asia through fresh Nouvelle Cuisine with an Asian Fusion twist\, in a home rife with exotic art from the East. \n  \nChefs: Rose Reyes\, Montanya Distillers (Crested Butte\, CO); Chef Biju Thomas\, Biju’s Little Curry Shop (Denver\, CO) \nHosts: Desiree & Dave Miller \nLocation: Meridian Lake \n  \nDate: Thursday\, August 22 \nTime: 6:00 p.m. \nCost: $200 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCHEFS \nChef Rose Reyes of Montanya Distillers grew up in a time and place where farm-to-table ingredients were the only way to prepare food – she shopped at the local farmer’s market for what was the freshest. Watching her mother work with what was available still stands as one of Rose’s strongest inspirations. Now\, as a chef formally trained at the Cook Street School of Culinary Arts in Denver\, Rose integrates that dedication to freshness into her Nouvelle Cuisine dishes that sparkle with an Asian Fusion twist. Her modern interpretations of wine country gastronomy reference classical French and Italian while assimilating the roots of her ethnic influences. Rose revels in a good party with food as the centerpiece – music combined with the laughter of friends while ingredients sizzle and crackle in the pan\, aromas sifting out into the room. Her sensibilities dedicate her to the full range of aesthetic and sensual experiences of eating – of the visual and textural ingeniously followed by a surprising and delightful explosion of tastes. \n\n\n\nChef Biju Thomas of Biju’s Little Curry Shop in Denver’s trendy RiNo neighborhood is known for light\, simple dishes bursting with bold flavors from his native south India. Since opening his restaurant in 2014\, Chef Thomas has opened two more locations in Denver\, and in 2018\, Biju’s Little Curry Shop was named the Best Indian Restaurant in Denver by Westword. In 2009\, Chef Thomas teamed up with sports physiologist Dr. Allen Lim to improve the everyday diets and performance nutrition of professional cyclists and their teams. Their best-selling and wildly popular Feed Zone cookbook series features hundreds of easy\, healthy recipes for an active lifestyle. Thomas has cooked for dozens of elite professional athletes and celebrities\, teaching them the craft of healthy everyday cooking.\n\n\n\nLOCATION \nThe Millers’ home carries the ultimate dual advantage of vast amounts of open space access and a convenient location in a neighborhood. Perched on the highest tier of the Meridian Lake development\, the home backs directly up to over 12\,000 acres of U.S. Forest Service land\, giving them enviable entry to wildflower meadows\, aspen glens and the Snodgrass trail to the north\, and rambling down-valley views from an elevated deck to the south. As former residents of Hong Kong\, the Millers collected art\, baskets and textiles on their travels through China\, Japan\, Indonesia\, India and beyond that now accent their home’s more rustic elements – timber framed beams\, rough-hewn hardwood floors and white wash wainscoting. A soapstone masonry wood-burning stove bisects the living and dining areas in the great room\, allowing for airy entertaining while maintaining cozy\, individual uses. An extension of the space is the kitchen\, designed by culinary enthusiast Desiree herself to be compact yet efficient\, allowing the chef to be a part of the party.
