SUMMARY:Center for the Arts: Anders Osborne & Jackie Greene (POSTPONED)
DESCRIPTION:Due to COVID-19 coronavirus concerns all the Center’s March live performances and some classes at the Center for the Arts have been postponed until a future date More information can be found HERE\nRaging\, expressive guitar. Soulful\, rugged singing. A phenomenal blend of self-awareness\, spirit and muscle. These are just some of the words Relix Magazine uses to describe New Orleans’ blues guitar man Anders Osborne. New Orleans’ Gambit Weekly recently honored Osborne as “Entertainer of the Year\,” he’s OffBeat’s three-time winner of “Best Guitarist\,” and twice named their “Best Songwriter.” He’s appeared on Galactic albums\, co-written songs with Tab Benoit and Mike Zito\, had Johnny Lang record others\, and most notably wrote two songs for Keb’ Mo’s Grammy-winning album\, Slow Down. Risk-taking anthems\, precision guitar playing and the tremulous wail rising from emotional chaos have Guitar Player calling him the “poet laureate of Louisiana’s fertile roots music scene.” Paired with Americana and roots singer-songwriter Jackie Greene\, a jack-of-all-trades\, and an artist who can croon over soulful piano ballads as much as he can shred a bluesy guitar solo (like he did as the lead guitarist for The Black Crowes in 2013). A road warrior and musician’s musician\, Greene’s new EP ‘The Modern Lives – Vol 2’ (out October 2018 on Blue Rose Music) finds him at a new chapter in his life: his first months of fatherhood\, time off his relentless touring circuit\, and a cross-country move from Brooklyn to his birthplace of Northern California. \nDoors: 7:30 pm\nShow: 8 pm\nCost: $25 – $45\nFriday\, March 20

SUMMARY:Center for the Arts: Galactic feat. Anjelika Jelly Joseph w/ Naughty Professor (POSTPONED)
DESCRIPTION:Due to COVID-19 coronavirus concerns all the Center’s March live performances and some classes at the Center for the Arts have been postponed until a future date More information can be found HERE\n  \nHouse-shaking Galactic is at the forefront of progressive New Orleans funk. The quintet magnetically epitomizes NOLA’s ever-changing music scene\, interpolating R&B and jazz with contemporary rhythms of hip hop\, electronica and fusion. Filtering influence from their home town and twisting it with world beats from their travels\, these musical omnivores might further flex their creative muscles by weaving the blues and brass born of the Mississippi with slippery\, dub-inflections or speedy rap\, launching their evolutionary artistic vision into auditory ecstasy. Renowned for collaborating with other musicians\, this high-powered instrumental outfit evinces a multi-faceted sonic truth about their swampy cultural roots in every live show. This concert brings the Crescent City’s underground to the fore by featuring Angelika Jelly Joseph with the Naughty Professor. Be prepared to get loose. Galactic is Ben Ellman (saxophone and harmonica)\, Stanton Moore (drums)\, Jeff Raines (guitar)\, Robert Mercurio (bass) and Richard Vogel (keyboards). \nDoors: 7:30 p.m.\nShow: 8:00 p.m.\nCost: $35 – $50\nSunday\, March 15!

SUMMARY:CFTA: Wine Wednesdays
DESCRIPTION:Wine Wednesdays Tasting Series\n\n\n\n\nExpand your palate as you experience the subtleties and intricacies of wine in this three-part series\, curated and presented by Sommelier Aaron Tomcak of Mountain Spirits Liquors. Travel to Spain\, Oregon and Italy throughout these laid-back classes\, learning how to describe a wine’s taste and smell; how to judge a wine’s color\, aroma\, flavor and body; and the meaning of such wine concepts as dryness\, acidity\, fruitiness\, tannins\, varietals and vintages. Price includes heavy appetizers from Chef Tim Egelhoff and tasting flights of 4 – 6 wines. Series Location: The Center King Community Room. \nInstructor: Mountain Spirits Liquors Sommelier + Owner Aaron Tomcak\nCost: $45 per class\n5:30 – 7:30 pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\nOn a chilly winter evening\, transport yourself to the beautiful terroir of España. With more of its land under vine than any other country\, it should come as no surprise that Spanish wines are some of the best in the world. From Rioja and Priorat to Cava and Andalucía\, this tasting takes you on a journey through the unique regions and grape varietals of Spain\, including Tempranillo\, Albariño\, Garnacha and more.\n\n\n\n\nKnown for producing elegant and distinct Pinot Noir\, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay\, Oregon’s Willamette Valley is a hot spot for oenophiles. On the same latitude as France’s Burgundy region\, the Willamette is known for inopportune frosts\, scarce sunshine and passionate winemakers and viticulturists who cultivate over three-quarters of their vines with that touchy variety\, Pinot Noir. Learn about this stunning and fickle growing region as you taste fine wines\, including some that may surprise you!\n\n\n\n\nWhile wine lovers may immediately associate Piedmont with Barolo and Barbaresco and the noble Nebbiolo grape\, this tasting introduces students to a wide variety of interesting and complex wines from this incredibly beautiful and fertile region sandwiched between the Alps and the Mediterranean. From Barbera and Dolcetto to Moscato and Cortese\, sample a selection of fine and off-the-beaten-path wines.

DESCRIPTION:American singer-songwriter Martin Sexton is highly regarded as a musician’s musician. A Syracuse native\, Sexton got his start singing in the streets and subways of Boston in the early 90’s and is now known for his wide vocal range and fingerstyle guitar. This one-of-a-kind troubadour blends soul\, gospel\, country\, rock\, blues and R&B\, causing the Los Angeles Times to label him a soul poet\, folkie and rocker simultaneously. Fiercely independent\, Sexton has infiltrated many musical worlds\, collaborating with John Mayer and Peter Frampton as well as performing in venues as diverse as New Orleans Jazz Fest\, Carnegie Hall\, Bonnaroo and Jam Cruise. His songs are featured in Showtime’s “Masters of Sex” and “Brotherhood;” NBC’s “Scrubs” and “Parenthood;” and IFC’s film “Lucky Them.” Says the Boston Globe\, “Sexton is ripe with raw\, expansive talent. His voice comes in a hundred impossible shades. His songs are sweet and spirited and soulful.
