Center for the Arts Tyson Rogers

March 12 @ 6:30 pm - 10:00 pm

Western Slope Chamber Music Series Presents Tyson RogersVersatile pianist Tyson Rogers journeys through a multi-national, multi-genre stream of consciousness full concert arrangement, drifting from classical to jazz to pop and beyond, including original pieces and dedications. From the classical repertoire, Tyson brings to life 20th century French composer Olivier Messiaen’s innovative use of color and birdsong; the harmonic mastery of German Baroque composer Johann Sebastian Bach; and the influential twelve-tone technique of Austrian American composer Arnold Schoenberg. Exploring the greats of the jazz repertoire, he energizes composers and pianists such as American Pulitzer Prize winning and charismatic big band innovator Duke Ellington; the unorthodox and improvisational dissonance and angular melodic twists of American Thelonious Monk; South African Abdullah Ibrahim’s range from traditional African songs to gospel to modern jazz; and American foundation of the free jazz movement of the 1960s, Carla Bley. Personally, tours with bluesman Tony Joe White and country legend Don Williams, combined with a Grammy-nominated duet with Alison Krauss, induced Pitchfork magazine to call Tyson a “wayfaring keyboard wrangler” for his multi-faceted abilities. As a composer, his work has been featured by National Geographic, The North Face and Tom’s Shoes, while his recordings with cutting edge jazz trio, The Blueprint Project, received a “Best CD of the Year” by Downbeat Magazine. Tyson’s most current project includes work with monologist and spoken word artist, David Greenberger.
