Center For The Arts New Building Grand Opening
July 1 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Community Celebration for the Center’s New Building and Theater
The Center invites the whole community to celebrate your new building, featuring a new state-of-the-art performing arts theater. To kick off the summer season and thank everyone who has made the new building possible, the Center will host several events. All festivities are free and open to the public.
On July 1, gather at First Street and Elk Avenue at 3:00 p.m. to join a parade. Starting at 3:30 p.m., there will be a walking parade down Elk Avenue to the Center led by the funky, Grammy Award-winning Rebirth Brass Band of New Orleans. A ceremonial ribbon cutting takes place at 4:00 p.m. followed by guided tours of the new facility until 5:15 p.m. Rebirth Brass Band takes to the outdoor stage at 5:30 p.m. for a special performance as part of the Alpenglow Summer Concert Series.
July 5, there will be a celebration of the new Kinder-Padon Gallery with a special event at the Center from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
“This is incredibly exciting for the whole community, and we’ve been looking forward to this day since we broke ground two years ago!” shared Jenny Birnie, executive director. OUR NEW HOME
Designed to meet our community’s needs today and into the future, with:
The new addition is Phase I of the Center’s multimillion-dollar capital campaign for an expanded and updated community arts complex to advance the performing, visual, culinary and literary arts. At 28,000 square feet, the Center’s new addition features an impressive lobby atrium, a light-filled visual arts gallery that opens onto an outdoor terrace, and a theater that accommodates 300-500 patrons with flexible seating configurations and a main stage that fits a full symphony orchestra. The venue will showcase nationally acclaimed performers as well as the events and performances of the Crested Butte Music Festival, Crested Butte Film Festival, Crested Butte School of Dance, Crested Butte Mountain Theatre and other local organizations.
Even as construction nears completion, the official opening of the new building has been unavoidably postponed as the seats for the new theater were destroyed in a warehouse fire in Belgium just one day before the seats were to be shipped. This tragic accident has delayed the opening of the facility, but community support and excitement have not been dampened.
