SUMMARY:CFTA: Wine Wednesdays
DESCRIPTION:Wine Wednesdays Tasting Series\n\n\n\n\nExpand your palate as you experience the subtleties and intricacies of wine in this three-part series\, curated and presented by Sommelier Aaron Tomcak of Mountain Spirits Liquors. Travel to Spain\, Oregon and Italy throughout these laid-back classes\, learning how to describe a wine’s taste and smell; how to judge a wine’s color\, aroma\, flavor and body; and the meaning of such wine concepts as dryness\, acidity\, fruitiness\, tannins\, varietals and vintages. Price includes heavy appetizers from Chef Tim Egelhoff and tasting flights of 4 – 6 wines. Series Location: The Center King Community Room. \nInstructor: Mountain Spirits Liquors Sommelier + Owner Aaron Tomcak\nCost: $45 per class\n5:30 – 7:30 pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\nOn a chilly winter evening\, transport yourself to the beautiful terroir of España. With more of its land under vine than any other country\, it should come as no surprise that Spanish wines are some of the best in the world. From Rioja and Priorat to Cava and Andalucía\, this tasting takes you on a journey through the unique regions and grape varietals of Spain\, including Tempranillo\, Albariño\, Garnacha and more.\n\n\n\n\nKnown for producing elegant and distinct Pinot Noir\, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay\, Oregon’s Willamette Valley is a hot spot for oenophiles. On the same latitude as France’s Burgundy region\, the Willamette is known for inopportune frosts\, scarce sunshine and passionate winemakers and viticulturists who cultivate over three-quarters of their vines with that touchy variety\, Pinot Noir. Learn about this stunning and fickle growing region as you taste fine wines\, including some that may surprise you!\n\n\n\n\nWhile wine lovers may immediately associate Piedmont with Barolo and Barbaresco and the noble Nebbiolo grape\, this tasting introduces students to a wide variety of interesting and complex wines from this incredibly beautiful and fertile region sandwiched between the Alps and the Mediterranean. From Barbera and Dolcetto to Moscato and Cortese\, sample a selection of fine and off-the-beaten-path wines.

SUMMARY:Dawn Cohen and Shaun Horne Artist Reception
DESCRIPTION:Dawn Cohen + Shaun Horne Artist Reception:\nThursday\, February 13. 5 – 7 pm\n\n\n\n\n\nA narrative exhibit of paintings and drawings by Dawn Cohen and Shaun Horne\, describing twenty years of painting and family in Crested Butte. The exhibit is arranged in a timeline\, showing the development of Shaun and Dawn as painters\, as well as the lives and growth of their three daughters.\n\n\n\nAbout the Artists\nDawn Cohen was born in Savannah\, Georgia in 1972.  Dawn began her college studies at the University of Georgia completing a BFA in Art Education in 1994. She found herself back in Savannah shortly after college and began developing as a painter. In 1996 she moved to Ft. Collins Colorado and received a Masters of Fine Art at Colorado State University. After graduating in 2002 she moved to Crested Butte and has been painting there and in Savannah\, Georgia on painting trips to this day. For more on Dawn visit www.dawncohenfineart.com. Shaun Horne (b. 1968) is a professional landscape painter based in Crested Butte\, Colorado.  He makes landscape paintings using a large-scale plein air method. He starts and finishes his canvases on-site\, returning day after day to the same place and light\, in the manner of Claude Monet. On the other hand\, Shaun paints with an American hard-edge more akin to Rockwell Kent\, Edward Hopper\, or Georgia O’Keefe. Shaun has recently opened a new gallery\, the Shaun Horne Gallery in Crested Butte\, CO at 418 Elk Avenue.  Check out pictures of the awesome new space at shaunhornegallery.com

A Syracuse native\, Sexton got his start singing in the streets and subways of Boston in the early 90’s and is now known for his wide vocal range and fingerstyle guitar. This one-of-a-kind troubadour blends soul\, gospel\, country\, rock\, blues and R&B\, causing the Los Angeles Times to label him a soul poet\, folkie and rocker simultaneously.
